Before recommending any architecture changes, we run a cost audit covering idle resources, oversized instances, and data transfer patterns — in that order, since they're usually the largest and easiest wins.
Idle load balancers and unattached storage volumes are the most common offenders we find, followed by instances sized for peak load that run oversized around the clock.
